Fun & Interesting


Odds 'n' ends from the soccer world:

Men's National Team Friendlies this week:

USA v Belgium May 29th, 8pm on ESPN
USA v Germany June 2nd, 2pm on ESPN

Women's National Team v Canada 4.30pm on ESPNnews June 2nd.

BeIn Sport is carrying the Men's U-20 National Team at the Toloun Tournament in France, their final tune-up ahead of the U-20 FIFA World Cup in Turkey in 2013.

Bayern Munich play their final match of the year against Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal, the German Cup.  ESPN3 will carry the match at 1pm on the 1st of June.

Arsenal show the strength of the culture of football that has so effectively closed the gap in the women's game.  Watch this space soon for a post that posits the question: if what we do in this country hasn't changed noticeably over the past few decades (presumably because we're doing a great job of teaching the game and developing players) why are the European's, Japan, China, Korea and Brazil all giving the US National Team so much trouble?

Roman Weidenfeller did just about everything a GK can do to keep Dortmund in a great game with Bayern Munich over the weekend.  Here's an example of what physical courage looks like...and never think for a second that he hasn't been trained to stand in there and make this play:
